Mohamed Maklouf
Mohamed is a British national of Libyan origins now residing in the UK. He has been a filmmaker and film journalist since 1983, and has worked as a freelance writer for several Arabic language periodicals in London. He organized the first Arab cartoon festival in London in 1989 and has worked as a consultant on short and documentary films for several Arab and British television infopanies. Mohamed is the Founder and Executive Director of the Arab Screen Independent Film Festival, which specializes in Arab short films and documentary films. The festival debuted in London in April 1999, with a second session in Qatar in March 2001. He was a member of the international jury of the Milan African Film Festival in Italy in 2002, served as jury president of the Emirates Film infopetition in 2003, and served as a consultant on the Human Rights program at the Lucerne International Film Festival in 2003. As in 2004, Mohamed will be the Chief Programmer for the Arabian Shorts program of DIFF 2005. This section will feature short and documentary films from across the Arab World that contain a distinct Arabian theme or are directed or produced by young emerging Arab filmmakers. He is one of the region’s foremost experts on Arab documentary and short films.
